IBADAN — Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, a former member of the House of Representatives, has reportedly declined an offer from Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to contest for his former seat in the 2027 general elections.
Akinade-Fijabi was tipped to emerge as the consensus candidate for the Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West Federal Constituency under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former lawmaker previously represented the constituency between 2011 and 2019 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following unsuccessful re-election bids in 2019 and 2023, he defected to the PDP late last year.
Since joining the ruling party in Oyo State, Akinade-Fijabi has maintained a close political relationship with the administration, recently serving as the Chairman of the Oyo State @50 celebration planning committee.
Sources close to the politician indicate that while he remains committed to Governor Makinde’s leadership, he has no interest in returning to the National Assembly.
“He has turned down the proposed ticket, insisting that the opportunity should be given to other interested aspirants,” the source stated.
Akinade-Fijabi has reportedly reaffirmed his loyalty to the Governor and expressed his readiness to continue supporting the administration in other capacities. He is expected to formally communicate his decision to Governor Makinde in the coming days.
