IBADAN – The Special Adviser on Security to the Oyo State Governor, Mr. Fatai Ajani Owoseni, has resigned his appointment from the state government with immediate effect.

Owoseni, a retired Commissioner of Police who also served as the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF), tendered his resignation in a letter dated May 7, 2026, addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde through the Office of the Chief of Staff.

In the letter titled, “Letter of Resignation: RE: CP Fatai Owoseni (Rtd),” the former Lagos and Benue State Police chief expressed his gratitude to the Governor for the opportunity to serve, while noting that his exit creates vacancies in several security-related bodies where he represented the state.

“I present my greetings and wish to humbly inform Your Excellency of my decision to resign my appointments as the Special Adviser on Security and the Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Security Trust Fund (OYSSTF),” the letter read in part.

During his tenure, Owoseni represented Oyo State at the Forum of National and Subnational Security Officials (FONSSO) under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

He also served on the board of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun.

To ensure a smooth transition, the retired CP confirmed that details of OYSSTF bank accounts have been attached to his letter. He expressed his readiness to facilitate the change of signatories and provide professional insights on security matters if required.

“I seize this opportunity to express my immense gratitude to His Excellency… for the opportunity to serve our state in my own modest capacity. May the Almighty God continue to bless you with good health and divine guidance,” Owoseni added.

While no official reason was provided for his sudden exit, political sources suggest the move may be linked to a potential governorship bid ahead of the 2027 elections.

Reports indicate that the former security aide may announce a new political platform in the coming days.

The state government is yet to issue a formal statement regarding the resignation or the appointment of a successor.
