Faith-based institutions across Nigeria have been charged with the responsibility to contribute to national development by producing young people who can apply their education and values to addressing societal challenges.

The Chancellor of Dominion University, Bishop Taiwo Adelakun, made this call yesterday in Ibadan, during a press briefing while addressing journalists at Dominion University ahead of the activities marking the 4th Convocation of the institution.

Bishop Adelakun noted that education remains Africa’s most potent resource and greatest asset for sustainable development, adding that religious institutions must ensure maximum input in sustaining the sector.

He added that Dominion University’s investment in education was part of the church’s contribution to developing human capacity and preparing young people for responsible leadership, equipped with sound academic knowledge, moral values and the fear of God.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jonah Akoun, highlighted the academic achievements of the university’s graduating students, including Nadia Rita Bayakly, who graduated with a first-class degree in Mass Communication and a cumulative grade point average of 5.0.

Akoun emphasised the responsibility of graduates to contribute meaningfully to society, noting that university education should equip them not only with academic qualifications but also with the capacity to drive social transformation.

However, a total of 140 students across different faculties will be graduating at the 4th convocation ceremony.
