The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, confirmed the appointment of Dr Ladipo Olabode Taiwo as a commissioner-designate.
The confirmation followed the approval of his nomination during the plenary sitting presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
The legislative action was consequent upon the presentation and consideration of the report of the House Committee on Special Duties, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi. The committee had earlier screened the nominee and recommended him for confirmation.
Following the presentation, the House adopted the committee’s recommendations and unanimously approved the appointment of Dr Taiwo into the state executive council.
Governor Seyi Makinde had, in a letter dated June 30, 2026, forwarded the name of Dr Taiwo to the House for screening and confirmation, in line with the provisions of Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
In the correspondence addressed to the Speaker, Governor Makinde requested that the lawmakers accord the nomination the “usual kind and expeditious consideration.”
Part of the letter read: “I write to notify the Honourable Speaker and members of the House of my desire to present Dr Ladipo Olabode Taiwo for screening and confirmation for appointment as commissioner in our state.”
Governor Makinde noted that the nomination was in compliance with constitutional provisions, expressing confidence in the Assembly’s ability to conduct a fair and prompt screening.
While presenting the committee’s report, Hon. Fadeyi informed the House that the nominee was found to be qualified, competent and suitable for the role.
Dr Taiwo is a former Commissioner for Health in the state and is returning to the executive council under the administration of Governor Makinde.
