As Nigeria marks its 66th independence anniversary, citizens have called on leaders at all levels to address the severe economic hardship confronting the populace urgently.
Residents who spoke with Splash FM in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, expressed mixed feelings regarding the state of the nation, noting that the milestone anniversary evokes contrasting experiences across the board.
Mr. David Chukwu, a bag distributor in the Dugbe commercial hub, lamented that his business has suffered a major downturn recently.
He attributed the decline to unfavorable policy implementations, noting that the economic strain cuts across various sectors nationwide.
Echoing similar sentiments, an anonymous resident voiced deep displeasure over the current realities.
While acknowledging that individual experiences vary, the resident urged the government to prioritize the welfare of the masses.
Another resident, Mr. Ike Moses, while acknowledging the prevailing difficulties, maintained that citizens recognize the restructuring efforts of the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu and appealed to Nigeriansq to give the “Renewed Hope” agenda more time to yield tangible results.
Moses further urged citizens to maintain an optimistic outlook and positive energy toward the country adding that with fervent prayers and the right attitude, Nigeria’s fortunes would soon turn around.
