IBADAN — As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the Oyo State Directorate of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has lauded residents for their resilience in weathering current economic reforms, expressing strong optimism for a prosperous future.
The Oyo State Director of the Agency, Mrs. Ajolayo Sinmiat Akande, made this commendation on Thursday in Ibadan during her official message commemorating the nation’s 66th independence milestone.
Akande described Nigeria’s independence as a historic transition from thraldom to freedom, emphasizing that the country’s sovereignty remains an inalienable right to determine its political destiny.
Acknowledge the hardships currently confronting citizens, the NOA boss noted that Nigerians have consistently kept hope alive. She stated that citizens have demonstrated an unwavering willingness to partner with government tiers to build sturdier institutions and develop critical infrastructure.
Highlighting cushioning measures implemented to alleviate prevailing economic realities, Akande pointed to the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered buses targeted at lowering transportation and energy burdens. She also noted ongoing security stabilization efforts nationwide, stressing that “behind the clouds is a silver lining.”
Furthermore, Akande commended the Oyo State Government for complementing federal security architectures, specifically highlighting the recent procurement of surveillance helicopters to bolster intelligence gathering and safety across the state.
While urging residents to celebrate the anniversary with moderation, the NOA director called for collective responsibility in nation-building.
“While celebrating our independence modestly, we should work in harmony to confront our difficulties and commit ourselves to building the Nigeria of our collective dreams,” Akande admonished.
She concluded by wishing Oyo State residents and all Nigerians a happy independence celebration, encouraging them to remain patriotic, united, and steadfast.
