Speaking at the event, the General Manager, Television at Dominion Broadcast Group and co-host of the programme, Giwa-Onafuwa, explained that the conference was designed to extend conversations from the television studio into a physical space where women could interact, share experiences and build meaningful connections.
According to her, The Big Conversation, which airs daily from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., provides a platform where women discuss real-life challenges and share insights that help guide young women, families and professionals.
She added that the conference formed part of activities marking International Women’s Month, noting that the event also allowed viewers and participants to interact directly with speakers, panellists and industry professionals.
Giwa-Onafuwa emphasised that the organisers went beyond discussions by providing financial support to entrepreneurs.
“We are not just talking. We are also putting our money where our mouth is by supporting a business with ₦250,000. We want to empower people not only through conversations but through real action,” she said.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr Adekemi Felicia Opatunde, the APC Women Leader in Oyo State, who represented Florence Ajimobi, wife of the late former governor of Oyo State.
Her presentation, titled “Accelerate Passion: Turning Meaningful Conversations into Measurable Action,” encouraged women to transform ideas and discussions into practical steps that can create tangible impact in their personal lives, careers and communities.
She urged participants to remain committed to their passions while translating meaningful conversations into actions capable of driving lasting change.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, Omolola Alamu, described the conference as a commendable initiative that strengthens unity and support among women.
“This is a beautiful event that brings women together to reflect on how they are doing in their businesses and personal lives. Programmes like this are important for strengthening women in society,” she said.
The Lead Project Manager of the conference and producer of The Big Conversation, Tamilore Aare, expressed appreciation to partners, speakers and participants whose contributions made the event a success.
She noted that the dedication of the organising team and the strong support from attendees helped deliver a meaningful and impactful conference experience.
A major highlight of the conference was the presentation of a ₦250,000 business grant aimed at supporting small-scale entrepreneurs. Among the three finalists selected for the grant pitch, Adebisi Opeyemi Aminat emerged as the winner after presenting her business idea.
The conference also featured panel discussions, keynote presentations, spoken word and music performances by Odere, fireside chats and networking sessions designed to inspire participants and encourage collaboration.
Organisers noted that the initiative would continue to serve as a platform for meaningful conversations and practical support for women, revealing plans to make the conference an annual event and possibly expand it to other cities in the future.
