The House of Representatives Committee on Polytechnic and Higher Technical Education has issued a final ultimatum to the Minister of Education to personally appear before it on September 17, 2026, over the implementation of the Federal Government’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme.

The committee also directed the Federal Ministry of Education to submit all documents relating to the TVET project on or before August 18, 2026.

These resolutions were reached during an investigative hearing held at the National Assembly on Thursday, where lawmakers openly expressed displeasure over the minister’s repeated refusal to honour invitations or mandate a representative.

Speaking at the hearing, the Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Fuad Laguda, disclosed that official correspondence requesting details on the TVET programme’s activities had been dispatched to the ministry repeatedly since January 30, 2025, without compliance.

Members of the panel described the minister’s persistent absence as a total disregard for constitutional legislative oversight, warning that continued failure to appear would attract further sanctions from the parliament.

The committee emphasized that the demanded records are critical for scrutinizing the TVET programme to guarantee accountability in spending public funds allocated for technical and vocational education across the nation.
