The Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Reverend Taiwo Adelakun, has urged the younger generation to embrace continuous learning and innovation, noting that living for today alone is a waste of human potential.

The cleric, who is also the presiding bishop of Victory International Church, Rehoboth Cathedral Oluyole, who spoke at the maiden colloquium held to celebrate his 63rd birthday at the university campus on Tuesday, emphasized that the essence of life lies in impacting subsequent generations.

Reverend Adelakun noted that the choice of themes for the colloquium—Finance and Technology—was intentional, reflecting the realities of a modern, fast-paced world.

“We live in a digital world; you cannot afford to be analogue. You cannot run your life successfully without giving attention to technology,” he stated.

Addressing the economic realities of the nation, the cleric encouraged the audience to study the success of the new entrant, Premium Trust Bank in the banking sector, suggesting that a mindset of continuous learning is the antidote to stagnation.

“The day a man stops learning, he has expired. Insanity is doing the same thing the same way and expecting a different result,” he added.

The Guest lecturer, Speaking on the theme, “From Start-up to Stand-out,” the Executive Director of Premium Trust Bank, Mr. Ademola Adeyemi, who represented the bank’s CEO, charged students to prioritize hard work, diligence, and consistency.

He cautioned the students against seeking shortcuts, stressing that while there are faster ways to achieve goals, integrity and quality must not be compromised.

“Teamwork is critical, innovation is very critical, and above all, God’s grace is paramount. We only recruit students with First Class or Second Class Upper degrees because we believe in excellence,” Adeyemi noted.

Responding to questions from journalists regarding frequent technological glitches in the banking sector, Adeyemi attributed the challenges to infrastructure gaps at the third-party and telecommunication levels. He, however, assured that banks are working day and night to improve service delivery.

On his part, the immediate past President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Reverend (Dr.) Samson Olasupo Ayokunle, warned youths against the distractions of the digital age.

He lamented that vices such as cultism and fraud are being glamorized, urging students to keep good company and focus on their future rather than seeking “quick fixes” to success.

“Bad communication corrupts good manners. Things that are not worth our attention are attracting the attention of our children and spoiling their future. Life is not about quick results; it is about discipline and character,” Ayokunle advised.

Reflecting on his 63rd birthday, Reverend Adelakun expressed gratitude to God for the grace to continue shaping the minds of the younger generation. He reiterated that integrity, discipline, and hard work remain the pillars of sustainable success.

The event was graced by various dignitaries from within the Christendom and across several sectors of the nation’s economy.
