Nexgen Energy and Allied Devices Ltd has emphasised the need for continuous capacity building, improved policy framework and stakeholder collaboration to enhance renewable energy adoption in Nigeria.

Mr Noah Ojo, Head of Technical Department at Nexgen Energy, said this during a partners’ training and engagement session organised by the company for dealers and installers.

Ojo said the training was aimed at equipping stakeholders with the knowledge and tools required to meet the rising demand for alternative power solutions amid Nigeria’s persistent energy challenges.
“Everybody is migrating to alternative power sources, and there is a lot of pressure on stakeholders in the sector.
“This gathering is our way of understanding their challenges and providing the necessary support to meet customers’ needs,” he said.

He identified knowledge gap among technicians and engineers as a major challenge in the sector, noting that while equipment such as inverters and solar panels were available, inadequate expertise often limited effective deployment.

Also speaking, Nexgen’s Capacity Building Team Lead, Mrs Kemi Aiyeekitan, said feedback from previous trainings had led to improvements in product quality, availability and communication with dealers.

She added that the company had increased supply capacity and enhanced product durability, making its offerings more competitive in the market.

Aiyeekitan dismissed misconceptions about solar energy, stating that with proper system design and investment, solar solutions could power homes, businesses and large facilities.

“We have reached a level where people can rely solely on solar, depending on their energy needs and capacity,” she said.

Mr Taiwo Igbasan, Chief Executive Officer of Techspave Energy, described the training as essential for installers to gain better insight into available technologies and make informed decisions for clients.

He noted that while the renewable energy sector was thriving, there was still a need for government intervention, particularly in regulating prices and ensuring quality control of imported products.

Similarly, Mr Oluwadamilare Odekanmi, CEO of Dretech Energy Systems, said the training provided deeper understanding of evolving technologies and product compatibility.

He, however, identified quackery, skill gaps and high cost of adoption as major challenges facing the sector.

Odekanmi called for financial support mechanisms and incentives to make solar solutions more affordable for end users, as well as stricter regulation to curb incompetence among installers.

Also, Nexgen’s Operations Manager, Mrs Olawunmi Akande, said the meeting provided an opportunity for dealers to interact directly with manufacturers and share feedback.

Akande noted that although awareness of renewable energy was increasing, adoption remained low due to cost and limited knowledge, estimating that only about five to 10 per cent of potential users had embraced solar solutions.

She stressed the need for a combination of policy support and sustained awareness campaigns to drive wider adoption.
“Government policies will shape how companies like ours can make these solutions accessible, while awareness must continue to grow,” she said.
