The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating the unestablished Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has summoned the embattled Director-General of the agency, Prince Adeyemi Mathew, to appear before it on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
The investigative panel, chaired by Rep. Yusuf Gagdi, also extended invitations to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and two members of staff from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) who were indicted in the ongoing probe.
This resolution was reached during the committee’s ongoing fact-finding session, which was attended by the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi.
Mr. Ogunjimi revealed to the lawmakers that the purported council had anomalously requested over ₦27 billion in its 2025 budget solely for personnel costs—a request that was ultimately denied due to the agency’s failure to meet basic statutory requirements.
Earlier in the proceedings, Committee Chairman Rep. Yusuf Gagdi announced that reports submitted by security agencies would not be made public, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation. He dropped a bombshell, disclosing that the signatures found on certain exhibits submitted by security agencies differed starkly from recognized official signatures.
Weighing in on the matter, a representative of the Inspector-General of Police, Bashiru Adewale, urged the committee to maintain utmost discretion in its fact-finding mission to avoid jeopardizing broader security operations.
Mr. Adewale further stunned the hearing by revealing that the purported DG had initially been arrested in October 2025, but was subsequently released on health grounds.
The committee has reiterated its stern directive that all relevant individuals connected to the unfolding financial scandal must appear in person at the next scheduled hearing.
