IBADAN — Residents of the Omiyale Community in the Oja Oba area of Ibadan trooped out in their numbers on Thursday, July 23, 2026, as JCI Ibadan Elite, with funding support from JCI and the Crocodile Foundation, rolled out Phase One of its flagship medical outreach, the Elite Health Drive.
The intervention was designed to bridge critical healthcare gaps for underserved populations, promote preventive medicine, and facilitate early detection and management of prevalent health conditions.
Speaking on the initiative, organizers noted that the project underscores JCI Ibadan Elite’s unwavering commitment to community well-being and sustainable development. The outreach aimed to encourage healthy living, raise awareness on the necessity of regular medical check-ups, and ease the burden of out-of-pocket healthcare expenses for vulnerable residents.
Comprehensive Care and Free Screenings
The community ground buzzed with activity as a team of qualified healthcare professionals, backed by dedicated volunteers and members of JCI Ibadan Elite, attended to a massive crowd of beneficiaries.
Participants enjoyed a comprehensive suite of free medical services tailored to address primary health challenges. These included:
Routine Vitals and Diagnostics: Blood pressure screenings and blood sugar (glucose) testing to catch silent hypertension and diabetes early.
Infectious Disease Testing: Fast-response malaria testing and treatment counselling.
Eye Care: Detailed eye screenings and vision assessments.
Direct Intervention: Immediate distribution of free reading glasses to beneficiaries diagnosed with vision impairments.
Clinical Support: One-on-one medical consultations, lifestyle counselling, and targeted general health education.
Early Detections and Referrals
The turnout reflected a deep-seated local need for accessible medical care, with many residents revealing they had not undergone routine health checks in years.
During the screenings, medical personnel identified several individuals presenting with elevated blood pressure, abnormal blood sugar levels, acute malaria infections, and various vision challenges. These patients received expert medical counselling and were formally referred to designated healthcare facilities for comprehensive evaluation and follow-up treatment.
Beyond diagnostics, the interactive health education sessions proved pivotal. Residents were schooled on the merits of preventive healthcare, balanced nutrition, physical fitness, and the dangers of self-medication.

Traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents of Omiyale showered encomiums on the organizers, praising the warm reception and orderly conduct that marked the exercise.
With the resounding success of Phase One, JCI Ibadan Elite has signaled its readiness to scale up the initiative. Organizers stated that the milestone establishes a formidable springboard for subsequent phases of the Elite Health Drive, with broader horizons set to touch more vulnerable communities across Oyo State and foster a healthier society.
