The National Assembly has announced plans to deepen the digitisation of parliamentary records and expand public access to legislative information.
Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Trust Fund, Henry Nwawuba, disclosed this in Abuja at the opening of the 2026 National Assembly Library Week, themed Parliamentary Memory: Connecting Records, Legislation and the People, saying that the Trust Fund is investing in electronic repositories.
He also announced among other plans, to translate Nigerian laws into Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo and other local languages, alongside infographics and video explainers to simplify legislative procedures.
The Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, warned against the circulation of fake and altered copies of Bills and Acts, stressing the need for cybersecurity, authentication and collaboration with the Attorney-General’s office including the Law Reform Commission to provide current and authoritative laws.
Earlier in their separate goodwill remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, represented at the event, described the library as critical to evidence-based lawmaking and democratic governance, urging sustained investment to preserve Nigeria’s legislative memory.
