The House of Representatives has dismissed the petition against NIPCO Plc over the award of gas distribution licences.
The petition was filed by the Nigerian Energy Security Watch Group, which wanted the licences for Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun States, and the Lagos and Lekki Free Trade Zones, investigated and cancelled.
The Sub-Committee, chaired by Rep. Peter Aniekwe, said the petition lacked substance and evidence, and was based on hearsay that could not prove any allegation of wrongdoing.
Announcing the decision, the Chairman said the grant and regulation of gas distribution licences is a statutory function of the NMDPRA under the Petroleum Industry Act.
He added that the NMDPRA has committed to complete the roll-out of gas distribution licensing in the fourth quarter of 2026, and the Sub-Committee will follow it closely, assuring Nigerians that the House remains open to all genuine concerns about the gas sector.
