The House Committee on Renewable Energy has again issued what it described as a final summons to the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Aliyu, and the Head of the Nigeria Electrification Programme (NEP), Olufemi Akinyelure, over their failure to appear before the panel.
The committee is currently investigating grants, loans and investments in Nigeria’s renewable energy sector between 2015 and 2024, with particular focus on the disbursement of funds, project implementation, and compliance with statutory and financial regulations.
At the resumed investigative hearing in Abuja, Chairman of the Committee, Rep. Afam Ogene, expressed displeasure over the repeated non-compliance by the agency’s leadership with invitations extended by the panel.
He warned that if the two officials fail to appear before the committee on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 2 p.m., the lawmakers would be compelled to invoke their constitutional powers to enforce attendance.
Ogene emphasised that the probe is part of the National Assembly’s constitutional mandate to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of public and donor funds, especially in a critical sector such as renewable energy, which plays a central role in rural development and national economy.
