The House of Representatives reaffirmed its constitutional power to summon telecommunications operators over persistent poor service delivery.
The house gave made this Known yesterday during the ad hoc committee meeting.
The Ad Hoc Committee on Telecommunications Service Quality walked out representatives of ALTON after the chief executives of MTN, Globacom, Airtel and T2 Mobile failed to honour a fresh summons.
The Committee insisted that each operator holds a separate licence and must account individually for its services.
It rejected ALTON’s appearance, warning that any further unauthorised appearance could attract detention.
Committee Chairman, Rep. Olumide Osoba, cited Sections 88 and 89 of the 1999 Constitution, saying the National Assembly enacted the Nigerian Communications Act and retains oversight powers over the NCC and operators.
The probe follows mounting complaints over dropped calls, disappearing data and poor internet.
