All the pupils and staff members abducted during the brazen May 15 attack on Ahoro-Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been released.
The victims were abducted when heavily armed gunmen stormed the community, seizing 46 individuals—including pupils, teachers, and the principal of a local secondary school—in an incident that sparked widespread national outrage and condemnation.
The abduction took a gruesome turn days later when the kidnappers beheaded one of the victims, Michael Oyedokun, a teacher, throwing the community and the nation into mourning.
While sources confirmed to this newspaper that the remaining hostages have regained their freedom, official details regarding the rescue operation, including the circumstances surrounding their release and whether any suspects have been apprehended, remain sketchy.
Security agencies have yet to issue a formal statement on the development as of the time of filing this report.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
