The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), under the leadership of Professor Joash Amupitan, for conducting a transparent, free, fair, and credible governorship election in Osun State, describing the exercise as a true litmus test for the electoral umpire.

Making this known in a statement issued and signed by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, BON noted that the successful outcome of the poll, if sustained and improved upon, could serve as a viable model for subsequent elections across the country.

The umbrella body of broadcasters also lauded various security agencies for deploying adequate personnel and measures, which significantly minimized tension and curbed criminality throughout the duration of the election.

While celebrating the peaceful conduct of the polls, BON stressed the imperative for INEC to ensure the immediate and decisive prosecution of individuals who perpetrated electoral crimes, emphasizing that such measures are vital to serving as a deterrent to future offenders.

In light of this, the organization called on both INEC and other relevant statutory agencies to enforce electoral laws strictly and ensure that all lawbreakers face the full wrath of the law.
