AfCFTA: Nigeria Bets Big on Women to Lead African Trade

The Federal government has reaffirmed commitment towards supporting women-led businesses aimed at repositioning Nigeria for a leadership position in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA).
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, stated this at a colloquium, themed “Positioning Nigeria to Lead Intra-African Trade,” in Abuja.
The colloquium focuses on expanding trade financing opportunities and strengthening institutional support for women-led businesses within the AfCFTA framework.
The Minister explained that President Bola Tinubu-led government’s economic reforms are laying the foundation for the flow of capital.
Also speaking, the Minister of state for Industry, Trade and Investment, John Enoh, said that African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) is no longer an architectural phenomenon, but contextual and realistic, urging relevant stakeholders and Nigerians at large to close unrealized commitments to making Nigeria a productive hub through industrialization.
Presenting her postion, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, noted that her ministry would continue to strengthen systems that scale up women-led businesses, asserting that women constitute of 70 percent of agricultural vocation.
Earlier, the Head of Service of the federation, Mrs, Didi Walson-Jack described the colloquium as an opportunity to deepen dialogue on how to accelerate women-led businesses.
