The new Board of Directors of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has reiterated its commitment to providing quality services to its esteemed customers, promising to improve service delivery.

The new Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief Tunde Afolabi, made this pledge today during a media briefing held at the head office of the energy provider, located at the Dikko Building, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on the current state of the company, Chief Afolabi acknowledged that the distribution company is facing numerous challenges, which have led to an inability to meet the demands of customers within its coverage area.

However, while noting that the distribution company currently receives only 50 megawatts of power from the GenCos, he stated that the company’s mandate under his leadership is to purchase power directly from generating companies.

This strategy aims to scale up allocated supplies for better service delivery.

“One of our biggest problems is that what we get, we are getting just 50 per cent of power demand. We can only give what we get. We are going to ensure that we are buying directly from generating companies.

“The other issue is that we have to solve the problem of redundancy. We have some power plants in this area that are not in use. We will bring them back.

“When the grid collapses, you shut down. Grid collapses. I know about 50 per cent of Gencos that are moribund now. As I said in my speech, we will give you what we get.” he said.

Moreover, he mentioned that plans are in the pipeline to revamp several hydro plants that have been redundant for years. This initiative is intended to improve productivity and elevate IBEDC’s operations.

In the same vein, while highlighting that there will be increased stakeholder engagement under the new leadership, he disclosed that there will be improved welfare for all members of staff to boost morale and further enhance productivity.
