INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, says electoral bodies cannot avoid AI, but must secure systems to use it responsibly.
He spoke in Abuja while receiving ECOWAS electoral body, ECONEC, after validating guidelines on AI in elections.
Amupitan said AI is already in every phone and can help with voter registration and answering citizens’ questions.
In his submission, ECONEC leader, Mr. Serigne Ka, said the guidelines are now adopted and AI has come to stay.
In another statement, INEC has clarified reasons some candidates were omitted from the 2027 governorship list.
It cited the Supreme Court judgment of September 24th upholding Section 77 of the Electoral Act, which requires parties to submit membership registers.
The Commission however hinted that parties that failed to submit between April 21st and May 10thcannot sponsor candidates, stressing that affected parties have till October 24th to complain.
