ABUJA — The intense national discourse on state police is set to take centre stage in Abuja on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as the House of Representatives Press Corps hosts its Second Annual Distinguished Parliamentarian Lecture and Awards.
The lecture, themed “The Imperative for State Police: Securing Communities, Strengthening Federalism,” comes at a crucial time as the Constitution Alteration Bill on State Police is currently before the 36 State Houses of Assembly.
Top dignitaries expected to headline the event include Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago; the Founder of Tantita Security Services, Chief Ekpemupolo Tompolo; former Minority Leader of the House, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu; and the Secretary of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, Nnadubem Moghalu, who is slated to deliver the keynote address focusing on community security and federalism.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, will serve as the Chief Host of the high-profile gathering.
According to the organizers, the event will commence at 10 a.m. at the National Assembly Library Auditorium.
The ceremony will also feature special award presentations to Governor Bago and Tompolo in recognition of their notable contributions to grassroots development and the protection of national assets.
