ABUJA – The House of Representatives, on Monday, held an emergency session and passed a bill to extend the implementation period of the capital components of the 2025 Appropriation Act from June 30 to September 30, 2026.

The passage of the bill followed a clause-by-clause consideration by the Committee of Supply, which was presided over by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen.

The session was specifically convened to consider the Appropriation (Repeal and Enactment) Act, 2025.

To facilitate the expedited passage, the Speaker moved for the suspension of the relevant Standing Rules of the House.

Addressing his colleagues during the plenary, Speaker Tajudeen explained that the extension was necessitated by the need to stimulate economic growth and ensure the overall betterment of the country.

He further noted that the three-month extension is critical to enabling the Federal Government to fulfill its obligations regarding the full funding and implementation of capital projects across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The bill has now been passed for the third reading, marking a significant step in ensuring that ongoing developmental projects are completed before the transition to the next budget cycle.
