As the world celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, medical experts have stressed the importance of understanding the warning signs of breast cancer, recognizing unusual changes in the breasts, and seeking medical attention promptly when concerns arise.
The experts gave this warning while featuring on a women-centric program, “Ilubirin” on Splash 105.5 FM, anchored by Temilade Aluko on October 6, with a focus on the theme: “Breast Cancer: Beyond Awareness — What Every Woman Needs to Know, Do and Demand.”
The show, which featured two health professionals—Mrs. Adebunmi Adesope, a sexual and reproductive health expert, and Mrs. Tayo Oduola, a matron with the Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria—examined critical issues surrounding breast cancer, emphasizing that awareness must go beyond symbolic gestures to include practical knowledge, breast self-awareness, early detection, and access to appropriate healthcare.
The duo, in the educational program streamed online via the Splash FM Facebook page, gave a practical demonstration of breast self-examination to their online audience.
The live training was geared toward sensitizing women to what to look out for while examining their breasts, how to recognize unusual changes, and how to report them to healthcare professionals.
The guests also encouraged women to take responsibility for their health while demanding timely and accessible healthcare.
