As Oyo state joins the rest of the world to celebrate World Environment Day 2026, residents of Ibadan and the Nigerians in general have been advised to change their perspective towards protecting Mother Earth in the interest of humanity
The state commissioner for Environment, Engineer Ademola Aderinto, made this call today during a media briefing held at the Ministry of Environment to commemorate the day, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Lands, Agriculture, and Eco Green Initiatives.
Engineer Aderinto noted that human action has continued to degrade our environment, adding that we are presently losing this planet.
He added that humans have continued to pollute the planet, with the effects vividly noticeable in the ozone layer, signs of global warming and climate change, and weather distortions.

The state commissioner for health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Adetunmobi present at the event disclosed that the media briefing was a clarion charged at reawakening there consciousness on the need to sustain the environment, imbibe tree planting, responsibly take care of waste, and take care of their environment.
The executive director of OYSHIA, Dr Sola Akande disclosed that residents need to start caring for their environment as a preventive measure for health, adding that a healthy lifestyle supports health.
The director of Eco Green, Elijah Ibukun-Adejimi, noted that humans must harness all we have at hand to sustain the planet Earth, adding that the initiative is driving tree planting and responsible use of our environment.
The event climaxed with the planting of 100 trees within the state secretariat complex.
