The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, has felicitated with former Speaker and distinguished stateswoman, Sen. Monsurat Sunmonu, on the occasion of her 67th birthday, describing her as a trailblazer, mentor, and a pillar of progressive leadership in Oyo State and beyond.
In a statement issued in Ibadan to mark the celebration, the Speaker lauded Senator Sunmonu’s remarkable contributions to legislative governance, particularly her historic emergence as the first female Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly during the 7th Assembly.
He noted that her tenure remains a reference point for purposeful leadership, inclusiveness, and dedication to public service.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin commended the former Speaker’s steadfast commitment to the growth and development of Oyo State, emphasizing that her impact continues to be felt across the political landscape.
He further acknowledged her service at the national level as a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where she represented Oyo Central Senatorial District with distinction.
The Speaker also highlighted her current role as a respected member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, noting that her wealth of experience and wise counsel remain invaluable to governance and policy direction in the state.
Ogundoyin particularly described Senator Sunmonu as a political mentor and a mother figure to him and many within and beyond the legislature, noting that her guidance, support, and nurturing role have helped shape the careers of several emerging leaders in Oyo State.
“Distinguished Senator Monsurat Sunmonu is not only an exceptional leader but also a dependable mentor and mother whose influence transcends politics. Her life exemplifies dedication, courage, and selfless service. Her journey continues to inspire a new generation of leaders, particularly women in politics,” the statement read.
Rt. Hon. Ogundoyin prayed for her continued good health, longevity, and greater accomplishments in the years ahead, as she continues to contribute to the advancement of Oyo State and Nigeria at large.
He wished the elder stateswoman a joyful celebration and many more years of impactful service to humanity.
