The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Oyo State has urged eligible residents in the state to make maximum use of the remaining days of the extended Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, warning them against last-minute rushes.
The third and final phase of the CVR exercise, which was earlier extended by two weeks starting from Saturday, 11th July, is scheduled to officially end on Sunday, 26th July, 2026.
This was contained in a media release issued by the Honourable Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State, Prof. Rahman Adeniran Tella, aimed at ramping up mobilization ahead of the upcoming 2027 General Election.
According to the REC, the extension is specifically designed to accommodate all eligible citizens who are yet to register, individuals who have recently attained the age of 18 years, and those who have never registered before.
According to the release, the window is open to registered voters wishing to transfer their polling units, those seeking to replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), and citizens who require corrections to their personal details.
However Prof. Tella advised prospective registrants against waiting until the final hours of the exercise, noting that procrastination often leads to unnecessary congestion, long queues, and avoidable disappointments at registration centers.
To ease the pressure and streamline the process, the INEC chief reminded the public that the Commission has deployed the Self-Service Online Registration Portal (accessible via cvr.inecnigeria.org) specifically for first-time voters.
Highlighting the benefits of the digital innovation, Prof. Tella explained that the portal eliminates the need for physical appearance at designated centers, allowing citizens to initiate and complete preliminary steps at their own convenience and comfort.
“This innovation is designed to eliminate the physical appearance of registrants, allow doing it at one’s convenient area and time, and make the registration process faster and more convenient,” the REC stated.
